Are you a stay-at-home mom looking to make some extra money each month? While that’s great, what if I told you you could actually make thousands each month by doing something that you love. It might even get to the point where your husband could quit his job and stay at home, too. That is eventually my goal, and I just know I’m going to get there!
If you’ve researched work-from-home jobs and side hustles for moms before, you’ve probably found a variety of jobs you could do from home. But, realistically, how long could you keep some of those jobs up for? Phone jobs, for example, are very popular work-at-home jobs. But do you really want to talk on the phone all day? I don’t know about you, but that does not sound fun. Plus, one of the biggest advantages of working from home is setting your own hours. With many jobs, you can’t do that. If you have to be available M-F from 8-5, you may as well be in an office.
So then what are the ultimate side hustles for moms?!
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you probably know the answer to this question.
Blogging
I’ve had my blog for 2 1/2 years now and I just recently was able to quit my job to blog full-time! I also now get to work when I want and spend tons of time with my three little girls (ages 4, 3 and 5 months!).

I am dying to know what the workforce is going to look like for our kids and grandkids. The Freelancers Union predicts that by the year 2020, 50 percent of the workforce will be freelanced. The world is already so digital and I personally would guess that the majority of jobs are going to be done online. I know you probably think the web is already so saturated with blogs, but in my opinion, this is just the beginning. By starting a blog now, I personally believe that you will be one step ahead of the game.
Are you ready to start our own blog?! If so, I created a tutorial that will walk you through how to set up a blog. You can access that here. And, I’ll give you my ebook – The Beginner’s Guide to Blogging – for free if you purchase a blog through my Bluehost link (which is also found in my tutorial). By following the tips in my book, you will be well on your way to earning a serious income from your blog. But be patient – this is a job that requires a lot of work in the beginning but the rewards down the line are huge (and ongoing!).
Also – Bluehost is offering a special discount for my readers only AND a free domain name!
Have an idea for a blog name?! See if it’s available here!
Taking Surveys
Another way you can make money from home is by taking surveys. This won’t replace your full-time income, but it can definitely add a few extra hundred dollars to your pocket each month. I usually take them while watching TV or instead of scrolling through Facebook multiple times per day. Below are the best ones to join!
Swagbucks
Swagbucks is one of the best survey companies out there because you don’t just have to take surveys. You can also earn money by watching videos and shopping online. Earn gift cards to places like Amazon, Target, Walmart and more!

Ebates
Ebates is a way to make money buying things online that you already planned on buying. Shop online at your favorite stores through Ebates, check out, and receive a Big Fat Check in the mail. Shops include Macy’s, Kohls, Amazon, Shutterfly, eBay and more.

Ibotta
Ibotta is an awesome site that pays you for shopping and it’s super, super easy. Just download the app on your phone and then scan your receipt after you shop.
Ibotta works at over 300 stores, including Walmart, Target, Kroger, Publix, Dollar Tree, Safeway and more.
After scanning your receipt, you’ll receive cash-back within 48 hours. Transfer the money over to your PayPal account after each transaction or let it pile up and use it for a vacation or to tackle debt!

Freelance Writing
Freelance writing is something that is so near and dear to my heart. I broke into the field more than three years ago after quitting my job to stay at home with my baby girl. Freelancing allowed my husband and I to save money and not have to follow an incredibly tight budget. I know so many families that live off of just a few hundred dollars per month after all their bills are paid. If this is you, imagine what an extra $500 per month would do? And what if that only took you a few hours of your time each month?
Again, the world is going digital and many huge companies already hire freelancers because it’s more cost-effective to them (they don’t have to pay retirement or health benefits, for example). I expect this is going to grow significantly over the next decade. If you can get your foot in the door now, you will probably have so many opportunities coming your way over the next few years that you’ll actually have to turn down work.
To me, the best thing about freelancing (and blogging) is that you can truly work when you want. You get to control your life and dedicate however much time you want to work. If you freelance 40 hours per week, you’re going to make more money than if you only freelance 5 hours per week. It’s completely in your control.
I love waking up early and freelancing. That allows me to spend my days exactly how I want. I can run errands, take my kids to playdates, cook, bake and more. When my kids are napping, I’m able to work. And, if my husband is watching football (like right now!), I can also freelance or blog. I love the flexibility that this provides!
Oh, and if I don’t feel like freelancing or blogging early one morning? I don’t. As long as I don’t have a deadline that day, there’s no reason to get up early and work if I’m not feeling it.
My highest freelancing income month was $2,700 since I started tracking my income two years ago. Before tracking it publicly, I had a few months where I made more than $3,000. During that time, I had a 18-month old and a 2-month old. I never worked more than a couple of hours per day.
If you are interested in becoming a freelance writer, I highly highly recommend Holly Johnson’s brand new course on freelance writing, Earn More Writing. Holly is by far the best freelance writer that I know – she is actually invoicing over $200,000 in freelancing income this year. You guys, this does not include income she is making from her blog, this is strictly income she makes as a freelancer. She is also a mom to two little girls, just like a lot of us. Her and her family are able to travel the world together because of her freelancing career. And yes, she started out freelancing as a “side hustle” in addition to her full-time job. I personally will attest to the value you will get out of her course.
And, of course, I’m always here too. Blogging and freelancing are my two passions outside of my family 🙂 I’ve really made this work and I love it so much. I would love to see some of you mama’s succeed with this, too. If you start a blog through my link, I’ll send you my new book for free! You can email me anytime with questions or if you need encouragement. Holly and I are moms just like you and we are all in this journey together!
A big HECK YES to this post! Blogging and freelance writing are absolutely at the top of my list for business ideas for SAHMs (I just wrote a post about it today too, lol!!)
It provides so much flexibility and an awesome opportunity to earn an income from home!
It really does! And the income potential is limitless. That’s my favorite part! The harder you work, the more you’ll earn 🙂
I agree that blogging and writing are great jobs for moms who want some flexibility. However, there is no way I could keep my kids home while I work. Everyone assumes they stay home during school breaks or that they weren’t in daycare growing up, but it’s not true! I write full-time and there is no way I could do it and take care of small children all day.
Oh yes for your income there is no way I could have my kids either!! However, it’s definitely possible to make some money with kids at home. Before I started publishing my income online and before the girls were in daycare, I had many months where I made $3K, average was around $2K, and this was with my toddler and my newborn at the time!! (But, to fully disclose I was NOT blogging during that time)
I love blogging and it can be life changing. I am not offering writing services as I am not a native English speaker. However, blogging is definitely something I enjoy and recommend to everyone who wants to work from home!
Yup!! I agree! It can take a while to make money from (years, lol), but if it’s something you enjoy then it is DEFINITELY worth it!
I’m hoping to eventually get to making a full time income from doing both. As for now, I’ve just landed my first freelance opportunity and I’m excited! Great post!
You did?!?! That is WONDERFUL!!!! Congratulations!!!! I have a feeling you will be getting a ton more!!
I think freelance anything is great whether it’s accounting, web design, programming, writing, art, etc.
Hi Jaime!! Looks like the comments are working – woo hoo!! Happy to have you and thanks for the input! I agree – freelancing is wonderful no matter what field you are in. Find your passion and start a side hustle!!
I totally agree with you! Blogging is a great job for moms! Great post!
Hugs,
Love from http://www.trangscorner.com {a lifestyle, fashion, beauty, and food blog}
It sure is!! And honestly not just for the possibility of money, but for the friends and the community!! Moms have it rough haha, we need to support each other!
As a pet parent to a senior dog, staying home and blogging and freelancing is so ideal! It really is the ultimate side hustle and there’s no limit to how much you can make. This blows past any part time job out there. I have been thinking about taking Gina’s class – she is such a hustler!! Thanks for the tips.
Oh yes I agree, there really is no place like home. I like socializing in the office, but at the same time I would still rather be home taking care of the house and with my kids 🙂 What kind of dog do you have?!
Love this post! I just started my blog (worries my first post on Saturday! ) and I’m still trying to work out all the kinks in my site. I really love having this renewed motivation. Thank you!

I am wanting to start freelancing. Can you offer me some direction as to where to start?
