September Freelance Income

I set a goal a few weeks ago of making $10K a month within one year. To clarify, that is one year from October, not September, since I set the goal toward the end of September. But, it’s kind of funny (well, ironic maybe?) that this month was my lowest freelance income month in a while (and by “a while,” I mean three years).

However, I am committed to being open and honest with my readers. In a way, it’s good that I’m basically starting from nothing, as hopefully I can encourage those of you who also don’t have a huge clientele that this can be done.

So, let’s take a look at my freelance income for September.

10K per Month in One Year Challenge

Hi everyone! How is everyone’s week going? It’s Friday, so that’s a good sign 😉

My week has been great! A week full of work with a little bit of fun mixed in (a trip to The Fresh Market for pumpkins, fresh coffee and dessert!) – nothing better. Tomorrow I’m working from home and plan on relaxing this weekend with my family. My girls have been so tired all week after daycare, so I haven’t seen too much of them and I want to make up for it this weekend with lots of quality time. Cami, my 3-year-old, has actually been asking to “go rest” when she gets home from daycare, and she usually ends up falling asleep for the night 🙁 This is at roughly 6pm, by the way. (Perhaps this is why she wakes for the day at 5am, haha.)

Today I wanted to elaborate a little bit more on my “Life Update” post from earlier this week regarding my goal of increasing my freelancing and blogging income to $10K a month within one year.

August Freelance Income

Hi everyone! Ok, I realize it’s been forever since I’ve posted. (Side note: I just re-read July’s Income Report and I started with the same sentence…) Life has been BuSy as can be, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

August freelance income

The biggest news over here is that we bought a house! We are moving in this weekend and couldn’t be more excited. While we’ve had a great experience renting (our landlord is our real estate agent and she is awesome!), John and I just prefer to own. He likes to fix up houses and I really enjoy decorating, but I have a hard time doing that in a rental because I don’t want to buy stuff that I may not like in a different home. This is our “forever” home – we will be there at least for the next 20 years or so while we raise our kiddos, and honestly we wouldn’t mind living there for the rest of our lives! Of course, I know things can change that are out of our control (like a job transfer), but I hope to stay in that house long-term.

July Freelance Income + a Change of Direction

July Freelance IncomeHello everyone! I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted and I know I’ve totally lacked consistency the past few weeks. I will say – while I love my new FT job – I do find myself short on time lately. I’ve managed to keep up with my freelancing work and keep the house clean, and any extra time I have is devoted to my husband and daughters (just as it should be!).

However, that doesn’t mean I plan on stopping blogging completely. In fact, I’m hoping to do just the opposite. But first, let’s take a look at my freelance income for July.

May Freelance Income

May freelance incomeWelcome to my monthly income report where I share how much money I make online freelance writing and blogging. If you read last month’s report, you’ll see I took a huge jump in my income. I’m happy to report that May was almost as good as April. Unfortunately, I know for a fact June’s income will be less due to taking time off during May to travel.

April Freelance Income + Life Updates

april freelance incomeHi everyone! Welcome to my monthly income report where I publicly share how much money I earn online via freelance writing and blogging. I am happy to report that this month was my highest income month yet by a lot! Most of this work was completed in March, as I do typically get paid one month out. Either way, I am happy!!

Last month, I shared how I don’t worry too much about increasing my income at this point in my life. With my daughters being so young, they are my focus. They do go to daycare part time and are great nappers, so I do enjoy working during that time.

This month, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I earned.

Finding balance between spending and saving

spending and savingI’m a saver by nature and I’ve mentioned that before on the blog multiple times. I’m rarely tempted by material items and love when I can put my entire check straight into savings. But lately, I’ve been wondering where to draw the line. The rental house we live in is still pretty unfurnished, we need patio furniture and I’m due for an upgrade on my computer. But…none of these are necessities which is why I have a hard time justifying the expense.

“Next month if we make XX dollars, then we’ll buy a patio set.” “Once we have XX in savings, I’ll feel more comfortable splurging on furniture.” But the problem for me is when we DO make good money one month or we DO hit our savings goals, I still don’t feel justified spending a lot of money.

March Freelance Income

March freelance incomeWelcome to my monthly income report! This is where I share how much money I make freelance writing and blogging each month. I have been freelance writing now for close to three years and have also had two babies in that time, so my income has been up and down. My highest month, prior to blogging, was around $2,700. After moving to North Carolina last August I decided to start this blog and share my income. I’ve consistently been averaging around $1,200 a month, with the hopes of increasing this to about $2,500 over the next few months.

I try not to stress too much about increasing my income since my girls are currently just 2 and 1 years old. They do go to daycare part-time which gives me 10 hours each week to get work done, plus I work during their naps. We’ve had a great routine these past few weeks and I’m hopeful that my income will increase.

Anyways, on to March’s income…

How much money can you make freelancing?

freelancingThat’s a question I hear all the time – whether being asked to me personally or being asked in general. Freelancing is a weird field. What I like most about it is you get out exactly what you put in. Prior to freelancing, one of my favorite jobs was waitressing at breakfast restaurant. I loved that I was in control of my income. The better server I was and the faster I could turn tables, the more money I made. Week after week the same three servers always made the most money. It wasn’t just luck – we put more work in and therefore got paid more.

How I made my first $100 blogging

After five months of blogging, I finally made my first $100! I’ve shared before how I didn’t start this blog strictly as a hobby, I started it because I eventually do want to generate an income from it. Some blogs make money right away, some blogs take years to start generating an income – mine seemed to take an average amount of time. My goal was to start making money within six months of starting my blog.

1- Get Started

I started blogging at the very end of September 2014 and made my first $100 at the end of February 2015. That’s five full months of consistent posting, sharing, commenting, switching themes and the like for $100. If you’re looking to “get rich quick” from your blog, you’re in the wrong place. In order to make money blogging, you have to really love writing or else the fun factor is going to fizzle out and your blog most likely will, too.

So how did I make my first $100 blogging? It could not have been easier…
