Welcome to my monthly income report! You’ll notice I changed the name from “XX Freelance Income” to “XX Freelance & Blogging Income.” I finally made some money from my blog and I hope to see that number only increase over the next few months!
As many of you know, I have a goal to make $10K per month within one year, or by October 2016. I have some ideas on how I plan to increase my income via the blog and I plan on finding a few more freelancing jobs, too. However, $10K per month is a hefty goal especially considering I work full-time and have two toddlers. I’m going to try my best to meet this goal without running myself into the ground!
So, on to my income for October!
This month, I made exactly $1,100 from freelance writing and blogging. Not too shabby, considering I spend no more than 10-15 hours per week on these gigs.
Of that $1,100, $380 came from blogging! Here’s the breakdown:
- Google Adsense payout: $110
- Affiliate sales: $5
- Sponsored posts: $265
For November, I honestly expect my blogging income to be lower (I won’t receive a Google Adsense payout and I have no sponsored posts planned for the month, either), but my freelance income should be a tad higher. I’m hoping to hit $1,500 for November. Again, getting to $10K by October is going to be hard. It’s going to be a slow and steady climb for sure. And honestly, even if I don’t hit that goal, I will be SO happy that I tried!
I have an exciting post coming up next month on negotiating raises as a freelancer! My freelance income is increasing, but my workload is staying the same. I want to teach you how you can do the same 🙂
Also, do you want to start making money from home? I’ve been freelancing for more than three years and blogging for over a year, and I consistently take in more than $1,000 per month. And I’m not spending more than 5-10 hours per week on my side hobbies. If you want to do the same, you first need to start a blog. A blog will give you credibility and expertise in your field, which you can use to gain freelance writing jobs. Your blog can also be a source of income, so it’s a win-win! AND, as a bonus, if you sign up for a blog through my Bluehost link, you’ll receive my new eBook, The Beginner’s Guide to Blogging, for FREE! Sign up now!
That’s all for today. This post is super short as my parents were in town for the majority of last week. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
How was your October? Did you hit your income goal for the month?
Congrats on a great month Sarah! I still haven’t figured out sponsored posts much, but that’s great that you landed some 🙂 I barely hit my goal for October and I feel like I’ve been working my tail off. I’m trying to work on ways to work more efficiently and while my son is sleeping so I actually put him to bed around 8pm now instead of 8:30pm and that’s actually helped quite a bit. I can’t wait for your post about negotiating higher rates. I’ve been meaning to do this with an older client of mine early next year.
Hi Chonce! I think you are doing a wonderful job 🙂 How long does your son sleep for? Does he take a good nap? Naps are my savior on weekends. Usually the girls will nap for 3 hours and I try to do as much work as possible during that time. They were going to bed at 7 but now it’s closer to 8 with daylight savings. But…they get up at like 5 so getting up before them to work is out of the question right now.
Thanks Sarah! On the weekends he will either play and stay up until he’s tired and burnt out and then fall asleep in the early evening but I don’t like that so I intentionally lay him down around noon or one and he sleeps for a good 2 hours or so. I wish I felt the positive effects of ‘getting an extra hour of sleep’ but I haven’t yet.
Congrats on an awesome month all around Sarah!
You are so right, even if you don’t get to that 10K mark by next fall (I still think you will though!), just taking the right steps in that direction will allow you to see that number sooner rather than later. The hardest part is just diving in and getting started – which you’ve already done 🙂
Hope you have a great start to your week friend!!
Christina
Thanks Christina!! And as always, thank you so much for the support and motivation!! Blogging besties for life! 🙂
Awesome job! I had a great month in terms of income even though I only worked 12 days.
Nice!!! That is my dream haha!! Work as little as possible but still make a decent amount of money. I want to spend time with my kiddos and hubby more 🙂
Congrats, that is great and very rewarding 🙂 Love your blog! This is definitely an inspiration to many new bloggers 🙂
Yay thanks!! It’s a slow and steady process haha, but I really enjoy this “work” 🙂
Congrats on your October income. I’m confident that you will reach your 410k/ goal for sure. Thanks for all the awesome post they really are very helpful!
Hi Shirria! Thanks for the support and encouragement! Time sure is flying – I hope I can get to $10K a month!! We’ll see, I’m definitely trying! 🙂
That’s so great Sarah! You are so inspiring to us “little people” who are just starting to try to earn an online income.
Awww thanks!! That comment made my day!! And you are definitely not a “little people!” I think that’s one of the reasons my blog is so relatable is because I’m not making tens of thousands a month haha (yet…anyways, lol!). Best of luck to you!!
Hi Sarah! I love reading your income reports. Thanks for the transparency! Sharing your goals and accomplishments keeps me encouraged!
Yay!! Glad I can help!! I’ll have to check out your blog — love the name!!
This is soooo awesome! That’s a nice number to make from just the website 🙂 I have to get involved with sponsored posts. I keep forgetting about this area of blogging and it’s such a great soure of revenue. Congrats on Adsense too!!
It is, but I will say I don’t want to rely too heavily on sponsored posts. Honestly, I’d rather just do a freelance article and keep my blog just for me – only promoting courses and books I believe in, and then selling my own product! Sponsored posts are a lot of work haha!
Congratulations on a great month! It’s nice to be able to follow someone’s journey from the beginning. I have no doubt you’ll hit the $10k aim you’ve set yourself 🙂
Aww thanks!! That’s exactly why I created this blog – to show my journey from the beginning! My original journey was to chart my progress to becoming a millionaire 🙂 While I’m not really tracking that anymore (as far as investments), I do plan on tracking my income goals! But yes, I feel like you meet so many people who are already millionaires or making tens of thousands of dollars from their blogs. I want to show my journey! Hope I’m able to get there LOL
Great job in October! You will be able to meet your goal if you just stay motivated. I’m still looking forward to my first Adsense payout. How many posts do you currently have on this site?
Good question! I have 139 posts currently!
Hi Sarah,
Love the income reports and I have added you to the The Ultimate List of Blogger Incomes!
I really like your sponsored posts income and also want to get into that. I sent you an email about that. 🙂
