Welcome to this month’s blogging income report, where I share exactly how much money I made online and how I did it!
I’ve been blogging for 2 1/2 years now. In March, I quit my full-time job because my blog income replaced my salary. Now, I spend my days at home with my three little girls and I blog when I have time. The really cool thing about blogging is once you put in the work (in the first year or so), a lot of the income becomes relatively passive. In May, I didn’t do too much on the blog front, but you’ll see my income was still pretty high (not crazy high; while I wish I was making five-figures a month, I’m not, haha!).
Blogging really is the only job that you can put in minimal hours and still make thousands of dollars per month. Passive income is a glorious thing, my friends.
If you’re wanting to start a blog, I encourage you to just go for it. My blog has evolved over the years and it’s not at all how I envisioned it to be when I first started. You don’t have to have it all figured out right now, just get started!! Trust me, the brilliant ideas and the income will come 🙂
Here’s my step-by-step guide on becoming a PROFITABLE blogger >>
Now, onto May’s blog income report!
May’s Blog Income
In May, I made $2,716.75! And I’m not even kidding, I probably blogged for about 10 hours total!
I published three posts in May (proof that you do NOT have to post every single day in order to make money). They were:
- How to Make Money with a Low Traffic Blog
- 3 Ways to Grow Your Email List Now <–this is super important if you want to make money blogging!
- How to Be a Full-Time Blogger
Breakdown of my income
Most of my income comes from affiliate sales, which is where I recommend a product on my blog, and if someone makes a purchase, I make a commission. My biggest earner is Bluehost, which is found on my “How to Start a Blog” page. However, I should note that this is NOT where most of my sales come from. Bluehost has an extremely high payout per sale (starts at $65/sale!!), which is why they are my biggest money-maker. I actually get more sales through affiliate companies like FlexOffers and Share-a-Sale 🙂
- Affiliate Sales: $2,232.70
- Ads: $356.09
- Product Sales: $127.96
Product Sales: I have two products, The Beginner’s Guide to Blogging and How to Make Money as a Web Hosting Affiliate. If you’re a blogger, I recommend brainstorming a product you can create for your audience. Even if you don’t sell many, it’s a fantastic learning experience!
Ads: I recently joined MyFinance in addition to my current ad network, Monumetric. I made about $60 my first month with MyFinance and expect to see that grow in the coming months. The MyFinance ad is just one ad at the bottom of my posts that links to related finance articles on the web (see image below). If you’re a personal finance blogger, let me know and I’ll connect you with the person in charge of the program!
Pageviews and Blog Growth
My pageviews have been down. I typically get 40,000 pageviews per month, but in May I only got 29,691. Increasing my traffic is something I need to work on in the coming weeks and months. However, I’m very pleased that I made such good income with low pageviews. I can really see the potential with this blog! If my pageviews doubled, so would my income 🙂
One of the reasons for my high income and low pageviews is because I have spent a good amount of time lately building my email list. Every subscriber is worth $1-$2 in revenue per month! While I don’t quite make that, there has been a direct correlation with my email list to my income. The more subscribers I have, the more I tend to make.
If you’re a new blogger, I recommend focusing on your email list right away. You don’t have to send them anything yet if that makes you nervous, but at least get people on it! You can do this by offering a free product to those that subscribe!
If you want to subscribe to my list, where I send tons of blogging tips and updates on my personal life, sign up here!
What Mailer Service Should I Use? I started with MailChimp but have since switched over to MailerLite. I highly recommend MailerLite! They make it really easy to design attractive landing pages, which ultimately will get you more subscribers. My subscribers have doubled since making the switch!
How was your May? What are you currently working on regarding your blog?!
Hi, I have a personal finance blog at RuralMoney.com and would like your contact name at MyFinance to discuss how they can help me. I will soon be upgrading my site because I am serious about blogging. I love your site and the name. I think your site name is a self-fulfilling prophecy for you. : – )
Hi Tonza!! Please send me an email at sbrooks52111@gmail.com to discuss further!! Thanks! 🙂
Hi Sarah!
The amount of money you make on your blog is great compared to the amount of traffic you get.
I’ve been reading your posts for awhile and I’ve just started my blog as well.
Right now I’m focusing on growing it on Pinterest so that I can get more traffic but I know it’ll take some time.
Thanks Cory!! Yup, I’m also very thankful that my income is so high compared to my traffic. However, I’ve been at this for 2 1/2 years now haha!! I really think anyone can make money blogging as long as you stick with it!! Best of luck to you and can’t wait to check out your blog 🙂
Hi Sarah,
I love reading your income reports because they are real and the best part is that you’re not getting a ton of traffic. So it definitely shows that it’s possible to make money with low traffic.
Congrats on only writing 3 blog posts, I can’t wait till I am able to do that. Right now I publish 2 posts per week, my blog doesn’t have a lot of content, so I need to get more on it.
I finally made my first affiliate sale last month.. yah. Hopefully, that’s a sign of what’s to come.
I am sure that you’re going to figure out a way to double your traffic. However, even if you don’t this month at least you’re earning decent money.
Thanks for sharing and I can’t wait to see how you do this month.
Have a great day 🙂
Susan
I found your blog today and it’s very inspiring to read your articles. So started a personal weblog some weeks ago. And I wanna reach a similar goal like yours with my blog.
What I want to say is you are very inspiring. Thanks for you pieces of advice.
You are rocking it! I have totally been stalking your blog hoping that some of your success will wear off on me. (Or studying to try to find more ways to improve my own blog!)At just over 2 months in, I can only home to be as successful as you are one day. My big goal for this month, figuring out my freebie to build my own e-mail list! Thanks for the read!

Very cool you made such a great income blogging with no more than 10 how cool. What are your favorite merchants to advertise on flex offers and sharasale? Have you heard of affiliate window.
Congratulations on the path you have chosen. 🙂
You are earning while doing what you really love. I’ve been an accountant for several years. Providing accounting services to several companies in the Philippines. If we really have the passion for what we are doing, we won’t get tired of what we are doing.
