March Online Income Report

This post may contain affiliate links. If you make a purchase, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thank you for supporting my blog!

Check out my latest online income report. As a background, I work full-time, have two toddlers and one on the way! I do not spend more than two hours per week on my blog, and I'm making a pretty decent side income! Here's my online income report plus tips on how you can start your own blog and create an extra income stream for your family!

You guys, I am so excited about blogging again!! While this month’s blogging online income was lower than last month’s, April is on track to be my highest blogging income month yet! And March wasn’t too shabby, either ๐Ÿ™‚

But, before I get into that. I wanted to let you all know that I have a surprise announcement coming next week! My newsletter subscribers will know first, and then I’ll make an announcement on my blog ๐Ÿ™‚ The news is definitely going toย mean some changes with the blog and for my family, but we are excited.

If you want to be the FIRST to know, make sure to sign up for my newsletter here!!

Now, let’s get onto my online income report for March!

To recap, in February I took in just under $700 in freelancing and blogging. However, a whopping $594 of that was blogging. One of my goals this year is to steer away from freelancing so I can focus more on my blog. While I love freelancing, with working full-time and two toddlers, it’s just not something I have a lot of time for right now.

March Online Income

This month, I made $1,139.60. Here is a further breakdown of my online income:

  • Freelancing: $825
  • Blogging: $314.60 (all affiliate sales)

In April, I am on track to earn more than $600 with my blog and nothing with freelancing, which I think will be my first month of no freelancing income in almost four years!!! That is crazy to think about!

How I’m Increasing My Blogging Income

I am very focused on affiliate sales right now. To me, this is the best way to make money because once you get your systems in place, the income is passive. My main source is from Bluehost and my “How to Start a Profitable Blog” tutorial. Bloggers – if you do not have a tutorial on this, you are missing out!! Whatever hosting you use, become an affiliate with them and create a “Start a blog” page. When your readers purchase their own blog through your link, you’ll earn a commission.

For those looking to start a blog – keep in mind that this is a page you’ll want to include in your new blog! If you do end up purchasing Bluehost through the link in my tutorial, I will send you a copy of my book – The Beginner’s Guide to Blogging – for free! The book will get your blog up and running and show you how to start making money right away!

I have absolutely loved working with Bluehost as an affiliate. I email them questions all the time and they get back to me within 24 hours. They also give me tips on how to increase sales and work with me on my goals.

My income is also increasing thanks to switching ad networks. I’ve used Google Adsense since day one, but just recently decided to hand over my ads to The Blogger Network. They handle ALL the ad placements for you so you don’t have to mess with code or decide where to place them on your blog. As someone who hates technology, this is a huge plus in my book. AND, my earnings have been significantly higher. With Adsense, I was earning $40-$50 per month and now with The Blogger Network I’m earning over $100 per month! (I haven’t been paid yet which is why that income was not reflected in this month’s report.)

I am looking forward to reading your April income report. Sounds like you are making some real progress. Do you have any tips on landing freelance writing clients?

    • Sarah Brooks says

      at

Yup!! I would reach out to your favorite websites/blogs and see if they are looking for writers. I used to pitch roughly three sites/day when I was first starting out. Also, check jobs.problogger.com daily, and freelancewritinggigs.com. I also go on Indeed and search for “freelance writers” or “freelance editors.” If you continually apply even just 30 minutes a day every day, I can guarantee you will land some work!! Good luck!!

Way to go! You just may have convinced me to write a ‘how to start blogging’ post! Can’t wait to hear your big news!

This is fantastic! I am a newbie blogger, and I am also a full time working mom. I have been freelancing for a few months but I am realizing that I want to amp it up quite a bit. This is helpful! My blog doesn’t have traffic as much as I would like, but I am going to start focusing more on social media and really pushing it out there. It’s good to know that you CAN make an income (even if it’s smaller) while working full time AND having children. Thank you for sharing!

Yup you can absolutely work FT with kids and freelance/blog ๐Ÿ™‚ You just have to be wise with your time! Now, I mostly focus on blogging and have dropped a good amount of my freelance clients. I love the extra income that it provides, though. Totally worth it!!

Congrats on the extra income Sarah! I hit most of my goals for March but I’d like to switch the ads up on my site too since Adsense is going so slow.

If you have 100K pageviews I would apply for AdThrive!! Supposedly they are awesome! If not, apply for The Blogger Network!! I have really liked them so far and my ad income has increased a ton!

Woohoo congrats! I’m with you – less freelancing and more brand building via affiliate links, etc. Getting accepted into a private ad company is sooo much better than AdSense. I think we both paid our dues with that and I’m excited to see how much you start making with TBN!

    Sarah,

Wow! How exciting. It’s amazing the potential you can have online! I just started a new blog and will start to chronicle how I plan to increase my traffic, readers and income. This will be the first time I attempt making money from blogging since, like you, I freelance write.

I’m excited and will definitely put up a “start a blog” page soon! Thanks for your tips.

Oooo is the new blog twinsmommy?! I’m going to check that out!! Best of luck to you!!

Wow thats amazing! I am just starting out myself and have to say I feel really overwhelmed and out of my comfort zone. It is a shame I already bought my Bluehost before I found you, I could do with some direction! Thank you for sharing your income reports! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks, Jen!! I kind of feel like I’m going backwards haha, but I am happy my blog income is finally consistent!

  9. alicia says

Wow that’s amazing! Gosh, if I could even just make $100 I’d be happy. ๐Ÿ™‚ I know I’ll get there, it just takes time. Keep up the good work!

    • Sarah Brooks says

      at

You will absolutely get there!!! I made my first $100 after five months (I think..) and it was from Adsense haha. It definitely takes time but within a year or so I bet you’ll start seeing consistent income!!

I struggle with the How to Blog idea because it doesn’t fit exactly into my niche… but I see so many bloggers making good money from it. Definitely food for thought!

    • Sarah Brooks says

      at

What’s your niche?! You could do “How to Start a ____ blog” (mommy, fashion, lifestyle, finance, etc). But I do see where you’re coming from – if you don’t talk about blogging, it may throw off your readers haha

      • Ann says

        at

That is a great idea, to focus it towards a particular type of blog!

Great to watch your continued success, Sarah. I’ve been focusing on keeping my blog updated with content to use as writing samples for future freelance jobs, and will soon look to start promoting the site more. Congrats on 100K+ page views, very impressive.

Great job on increasing your blog income. Question, I’ve also always used Google adsense, does the The Blogger Network have better pay out?
