Welcome to my monthly income report! This is where I share how much money I make freelance writing and blogging each month. I have been freelance writing now for close to three years and have also had two babies in that time, so my income has been up and down. My highest month, prior to blogging, was around $2,700. After moving to North Carolina last August I decided to start this blog and share my income. I’ve consistently been averaging around $1,200 a month, with the hopes of increasing this to about $2,500 over the next few months.
I try not to stress too much about increasing my income since my girls are currently just 2 and 1 years old. They do go to daycare part-time which gives me 10 hours each week to get work done, plus I work during their naps. We’ve had a great routine these past few weeks and I’m hopeful that my income will increase.
Anyways, on to March’s income…
March Freelance Income: $1,578.40
Up $288.49 from last month.
I have a new client that’s given me a good amount of work. April’s income is set to be higher than March already (but so far April has been slow, meaning I might see a decrease in May’s income). The income you see is money I collected in March, so a lot of that work was done in February.
Breakdown of my income
All of my previous income has come from freelance writing and editing. This month is the first month that some of my income came from blogging.
Blogging Income: $102Â
This all came from Google Adsense. I started my blog in September 2014 and immediately placed ads on it as an easy way to monetize. It took five months to earn $100, but that first payment felt so good! I do hope to add affiliate marketing in the future, but I want to make sure I’m only promoting products that I either use or would use.
Freelance Writing Income: $1,476.40
The rest of my income was earned through freelance writing. I currently have three big clients and two smaller ones.
Some big news
You may have read in my last  blog post that I bought a new domain name for a new website! I have been working diligently on this site and it’s almost ready to launch. I’m hoping to launch it by the weekend and will definitely share the site and what it’s about. Stay tuned…
How did your March look? Did you meet your goals?

Great job with Google Adsense! I’m excited to see what your new blog is about!
Thanks!! I will definitely make an announcement once it’s launched! 🙂
Great job with increasing your income this month! Really looking forward to seeing your new site! 🙂
Thanks Christina!! I’m excited to get it going! While I love freelancing…blogging really holds a special place in my heart!!
Your blogs are always so inspiring to me. I started blogging late January when my wife went back to work after our son was born and I became a stay at home dad. I find it quite difficult sometimes to blog simply because I have so much on my plate being a full time student as well. I’m determined to turn it into something great and so far it has been going really good. I’ve gained a lot of followers and I’m hoping that it will increase as time goes on. I am in the process of starting a new blog about my wife and I’s journey into financial freedom which I will be launching really soon. I also have a personal blog where I talk about my relationship with God and things that have occurred in my life. However, I am struggling with getting into freelance. I am needing to be able to add an income to our home! I’m hoping to get into it sooner than later and looking forward to it happening soon. Thank you for your blogs I really enjoy them!!!
Hi Matthew! Thank you for the kind words. Funny you mention getting into freelancing as that is exactly the subject of my new blog! I want to help others get started making money from home. The blog is for sure a work-in-progress, as I have this blog, my freelance work and my kids haha. But I hope to one day have it be a useful source for those starting out!
In the meantime, I would highly recommend searching job postings daily and applying for what you can. Commit to spending even 30 minutes each day (same time, ideally, so you form a habit) browsing and applying for jobs. I check Craigslist (check the bigger cities…most “writing/editing” jobs are telecommute), jobs.problogger.com, freelancewritinggigs and even indeed!
It’s good you have blogs too to showcase your work! You will be earning a good income in no time 🙂
I’s great to see your income increasing, especially the blog income. Well done!
Can’t wait to check out the new site.
Congrats on this again Sarah! Let us know if there’s anything we can assist you with?
Any thoughts on creating a course to create some more “passive” income? This may be what your new site will be about 🙂
Well done! I’m not sure if I will ever attempt to make money with my blog, but it is inspiring to see others do it. And congrats on your new website!!!
March turned out pretty well–I got my tax refund back and was able to put it all toward debt repayment and savings. It definitely helped a lot in moving the needle forward! 🙂
