I haven’t posted my goals in a while, but with June I have a few specific goals in mind that I wanted to share. In May, I didn’t accomplish too much since we vacationed to Arizona for 9 days. I had taken time off work the week prior and the entire time we were gone, so June is all about getting back into the swing of things! Surprisingly, my income for May was still high due to the fact that most of that work was completed in April. For June, I don’t expect my income to be high at all due to not working much in May and quitting one of my freelance writing jobs that I’ve had for nearly three years.
June Goals
This month, I’m all about being more focused and aware of how I use my time. All too often, I’ll get wrapped up in reading other blogs or articles online that I lose track of time. While I don’t think this is completely wasted time, I would like to work towards being more productive with my days and accomplishing more. Here are my goals for June:
Workout at least 3x’s per week. Before Arizona, I was working out just about every day and was feeling awesome! When I work out, I have more energy, I’m happier, I accomplish more, I eat healthier and I generally feel better. In AZ, I didn’t work out at all which got me out of the habit of being consistent and prioritizing my workouts. So today after dropping off the girls at daycare, I did a Jillian Michael’s workout video and feel much better! I plan on doing one workout each of the three days my girls go to daycare, and hopefully do more when they nap.
Read a fiction book just because. As a writer, I’m not a reader, which is something I want to change. I tend to spend my “free time” online reading blogs and articles, like I said above. This month, I’d like to change that and actually read a book just for me. I went to Barnes and Noble over the weekend and picked up The Girl On the Train and plan on reading a few chapters each day when the girls are either napping or playing outside.
Post 3x’s per week on my blog. Last month, I not only took a break from freelance writing but I also took a break from blogging. While breaks are good, it can be really really hard to get the motivation to get back into things. I’m also in a unique situation because the money I make freelancing and blogging is NOT the money we use to pay our bills. Typically, all of this money is saved. While saving is super important, I don’t feel tons of pressure to work, which can make it harder to dive back in. In addition to that, my husband has been extremely busy and there’s no end in sight. But – blogging is something I love and something that’s just for me, so I want to get back into it this month!
Land some new freelance writing jobs. Since I quit one freelance writing job last month, a lot of my time has opened up for new opportunities. If you need a writer or editor, feel free to contact me!! I also plan on scouring job boards daily and applying for all jobs I see fit. Hopefully, some new and exciting work will come my way in the coming weeks!
Make $1500 this month. April was great and May is up there too, but making $1500 in June will be a stretch.
Make over my mornings. To go along with using my time wiser, I’m purchasing Crystal Paine’s Make Over Your Mornings course. I am a true believer that what you do in the mornings can either make or break your day. I’ve talked before about how I try to wake up early so I can accomplish more, but lately I have not been doing this. Crystal’s course is not just about waking up early, though, it’s about setting up your day for success. I can’t wait to get started and will be sharing a review of the course once I’ve completed it! If you’re hoping to purchase it, it’s on sale all day tomorrow (Tuesday!). Click here to read all about the sale pricing and times!
Spend more time outside, and less time on the computer. I’ve already come a long way with this. Currently, I no longer use my computer when my girls are home and awake. This has made such a difference in how I parent and how I engage with my girls. I’m more patient, I have more fun with them and I really feel like I’m soaking in so many of these precious moments. For June, I want to spend even less time on my computer and more time outside! Our neighborhood pool just opened, it’s beautiful weather for visiting parks and lakes, we’ve been grilling out on our deck multiple times and we’ve been hanging outside with our neighbors in the evenings. This is what life’s all about and I hope to spend June actually living.
What goals do you have for June?
That’s a pretty ambitious set of goals. I really appreciate the one about changing up your morning routine. Pat Flynn did a Podcast on that not too long ago and I talked on my site about how there were a few things I was going to borrow from his suggestions. They have worked out well for me!
I’ll have to check that out! Thanks!!
My goal for June is to map out a fun road trip for July and to try to keep up with blogging;0) I’m amazed that you can get so many posts and freelancing done while the kids are sleeping. You must have efficiency down!
Haha thanks!! I’m currently in a lull with freelancing so hopefully the blog will be back in full swing! Also, the kiddos do go to daycare 10 hours per week which helps immensely!!
Sounds like a blast to plan a road trip for next month!! Good luck!
Great Goals!
I especially like the one about the morning routine. I need to get something going there. I’ll be interested to read your review of the course.
I also really like the goal to get outside more. I want to do that too. I always feel like I spend way too much time on the computer (as I am on the computer right now…), and I want to take advantage of the summer weather and enjoy my garden and yard.
Good luck with the June goals!
Thanks!! And yup, the computer is a trap! As is my iPhone!! That’s another thing I need to work on setting down haha.
Hope you have a great month, as well!
Good to have you back Sarah! All the best with reaching your goals 🙂
I’m confident you will & you’re very right about focusing on what you want to achieve.
Have you heard about Hal Elrod’s miracle morning?
That concept sounds similar to your makeover your mornings.
Cheers and keep blogging!
Hi Jef! How are you?! It’s nice to be back!! I haven’t heard of Hal Elrod’s miracle morning but I will definitely have to check that out! Thank you for the recommendation – hope you are well!!
Am well, really not a fan of the colder weather we’re having here but it’s all good! 🙂
Would be interested to hear how you go with the miracle morning and keep up the top work
How cold does it get in Australia?! This is our first summer in NC and it sure is humid! We’ve been getting a ton of rain lately so that’s probably why it’s so extreme. Temps have been in the 80s which is wonderful (w/o the humidity!!).
At the moment during the day it’s about 55 maybe 60, always struggled with Fahrenheit haha but about 15 – 20 degrees Celsius and it’s around 0 – 5 degrees most nights.. It’s actually fine but I’m simply not a massive fan of anything below about 70 haha
It’s a great place if you enjoy decent and consistent weather!
I miss reading fiction. I just don’t have the time at the moment, plus I know I can lose an entire day to a good book so I just can’t afford to slid down that rabbit hole!
I’m definitely a morning person. If I don’t have a fair bit of work done before 10am it feels like the day has gone to the dogs. That doesn’t mean I use that time as efficiently as I could, so I’ll be interested to read your review of Chrystal’s course.
Have a great month!
I get lost in books, too!! So I’m not quite sure reading is the best hobby for me to take on right now LOL. I’m only 10 pages in to my new book (the girl on the train) and so far it’s awesome!!! I’d have read more today if it weren’t for my little distractions, haha
My goals are similar! Especially working out and getting outside. I’m going to try to combine those two goals into one…two birds, one stone. Even just taking the dog for a walk or jog, anything to get moving and enjoy the weather! As for blogging, I try to dedicate one day a week to sitting at a coffee shop and getting out all my ideas so that I have some blog posts drafted ahead of time for those periods where I’m feeling uninspired. Good luck with your goals!
That’s a great idea to sit at a coffee shop once a week and blog! I need to do something like that in order to be more organized. I just started using Google Calendar today and I’m going to use that as my editorial calendar. Hopefully it keeps me on track and provides better, more engaging posts!!
Nice goals for June! 🙂 Good to see you back in the blogging saddle. I think I’m also going to try to get off my computer and enjoy the outdoors more in June. I did a little bit of that this past week (hence my lack of blog posts too until today!), and found that the break is much needed at times. It can be depressing looking at your computer screen when you see gorgeous blue skies and greenery out your window!
