Another month, another income report!
If you read last month’s income report, you’ll notice that it was one of my lowest month’s ever. This month, sadly, is even lower. (What’s going on?! Isn’t my income supposed to be increasing month over month?)
But wait…
In January, I brought in $846 in online income. $550 was freelancing; $296 was blogging. As of the New Year, one of my resolutions was to quit almost all of my freelancing jobs so I could focus more on my blog (and, let’s be real, to free up some of my time). For new readers, I have a full-time job and am a mama to two toddler girls. For a while, I juggled working full-time with freelancing and blogging. But, it was too much. I was stressed out and wasn’t able to enjoy time with my babies – time that I will never get back. Now, I work full-time and blog when I can 🙂 Life is so much better, and my blogging income has increased as a result 🙂
This month is a record-low for me; but it’s also a record-HIGH in terms of blogging. You guys, I cannot believe that this little blog of mine is FINALLY making an actual income. Blogging really is the BEST job for mamas and anyone, really. It is so flexible, it’s fun, it’s social, and it allows you to bring in an extra source of income from the comfort of your home. Oh, and you get to talk about your passions and meet other people who share the same interests. It really is the best.
If you are interested in starting your own blog, head on over to my tutorial. And as a bonus, I’ll give you a copy of my book – The Beginner’s Guide to Blogging – completely for free! Just shoot me an email (sbrooks52111 @ yahoo . com) letting me know you purchased your blog through my Bluehost link and I’ll send the book to you immediately!
Now, back to my income for the month 🙂
This month, I made $669.50. This was all money that was collected, not money that was earned. I actually should have an additional $825 tacked on to that, but a client is a little late paying me. That’s OK though! For me, this is just “extra” money that my family uses to save, go out to eat a little more, and enjoy life. So, if someone pays me late, it’s not a big deal.
The good news is that of that $669.50, only $75 came from freelancing!!!! That means I made $594.50 from blogging. Somebody pinch me. I know this doesn’t sound like a lot compared to some bloggers, but for me, this is HUGE! I really only spend a few hours each week (if that) on my blog. Last week, my parents were in town and I was sick, so I didn’t blog at all.
The Key to Earning Money with Blogging
Consistency. I promise you I am not doing anything different than I was a few months ago. My traffic has doubled again (I’m now at over 100,000 pageviews for the month!) and I truly believe it is because I am getting picked up more in search engines. Google likes to rank sites that have a history. It just takes time. If you want to start a blog, don’t expect to make money immediately. Sure, some people do, but most spend the first year or so building up their blog before they start to see an income. But trust me, IT IS WORTH IT!
Income Breakdown
As I mentioned above, $75 of my earnings came from freelancing. The rest came from blogging. Here is a more detailed breakdown:
- $147.25 – the good ‘ole Google Adsense payout!
- $200 – sponsored posts
- $24.15 – book sales
- $223.10 – affiliate sales
Affiliate sales includes things like 30 Days or Less to Freelance Writing Success, Bluehost, Tailwind, etc.
Plans Moving Forward
My ultimate dream is to make enough money from my blog so both me and my husband can quit our jobs, if we choose to, and spend more time as a family. I would love to travel the country in an RV (yes! even with the kiddos!), take month-long vacations, and just work on my own schedule. I’m in no rush, though, to make this happen now. I currently love my full-time job and am very happy with where our lives are at! But in my free time, you’ll certainly find me working on growing this here blog of mine into something huge.
How was your February? What is your “ultimate dream?”
Hi Sarah, thank you for sharing this with us! I am so inspired by this and seeing that yes, as a blogger you too can make money. My blog is new (late Dec 2015) so I know it requires patience and hearing it again is affirming for me. Congrats on a great month!
Great job! It will surely snowball from here!
Congrats on making the majority of your money from your blog. I’m a new blogger, so I appreciate seeing the breakdown of your income reports and what’s working for you. I plan to build up my content and readership for six months with no hopes of making money (though I have my income streams already lined up).
Congrats! You’re doing an awesome job and keeping everything in the right perspective. It still amazes me how much people can earn just from blogging. I always wondered whether the figures were true or not, that was until my own blog started making money. You’re absolutely right about giving it time, and that it can be a really enjoyable way to make some extra money 🙂
Yippee! I LOVE how you are crushing this with barely even doing any freelancing. That’s amazing! You have so many different ways of earning income, which is something I am trying to work on too. I can’t wait to see how you do next month!
YAY! You are doing great! I totally get what you mean about your best month. I’m freelancing a good bit and it’s time consuming. I need to free up some time too. Also, I’m taking EBA which is alot to handle too. Enjoyed your post! 🙂
This is very encouraging. Your honesty and transparency about your finances are appreciated. 🙂
That is o awesome!!! Congrats 🙂 This is so inspiring to us newbie bloggers!!
Your blog is very uplifting. I also work a 28 hour a week job while also blogging. My kids are older than yours but I spend a lot of time car pooling them to athletic activities and such. My goal is to create an income for retirement or before. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations on the great work. I hope to have my blog make an income one day.
Thank you so much for sharing! I’m a new blogger and it’s great to see what potential there is (and know that it may take a year to reach that). It’s currently a hobby, so I’m not super focused on bringing in money, but nice to have some extra income! Good luck moving forward!
Amazing!!! Get it, girl!!! 100,000 pageviews is such an amazing milestone!!
xo
Hi. I am new to your blog and just curls curious when you started blogging. I have been thinking about it for some time now and think I might start a blog of my own! Big step for me. Also did you start with blogger or something different? Thx
Hi! Great question! I actually did start with Blogger because it’s a free platform and I wanted to make sure I liked blogging. However, if you want to make money from your blog, I highly recommend using WordPress. I have a tutorial that walks you through starting a blog – https://www.thefrugalmillionaireblog.com/start-a-profitable-blog/ and if you purchase through my Bluehost link, I’ll give you a copy of my blogging book for free! Just email me your domain name / URL once you get set up!
This is awesome! It’s so inspiring to hear this! I’m still plugging away, hoping to make some money from my blog eventually! Great job, I know it will just pick up from here!
Congratulations to you! The fact that most of your income came from blogging is amazing. Looking forward to future months and I hope you get to travel in that RV sooner rather than later. 🙂
Hey, so I found your blog not too long ago and I just finished reading your “$10k per month in one year” post and now that I’ve read this, I see that your goals have really changed. Do you have a new $$ goal in mind now that you have reduced your freelancing? Excited to follow your journey as I am JUST getting started on mine.
Hi Lisa!! Good luck on your journey, too! I will definitely be checking out your blog! So, my goal is still $10K per month but I want it all to come from blogging. At this point, due to some personal things going on that I’ll share later, I don’t think I’ll hit that goal by October. However, I’m still keeping it as my goal because even if I fall short, I’ll still be stoked 🙂
